The California winemaking industry is recognized throughout the world as a major economic activity, and depends on the state's location and landscape.  Soils, climate, elevation, land use, and water are important factors to consider when determining suitable locations for wine grape cultivation.  A Geographic Information System is an effective tool to analyze areas for their  suitability for grape cultivation, and to identify areas that best meet criteria for a successful vineyard.

Raster analysis techniques were used in the project to determine suitable vineyard sites that met established criteria for desirable wine grape cultivation.
